What we cover
Three services, one firm, across the full journey.
Why Trellis
Not a side practice. The whole practice.
Most accountants encounter SEIS and EIS occasionally. We work on nothing else — which means we have seen every HMRC objection, every qualifying condition, and every edge case before they arise.
One focus. Deeply understood.
EIS and SEIS are all we do. No corporation tax, no payroll, no R&D claims. This is not a side practice at a general accountancy firm — it is the only thing we know.
We know the failure modes before HMRC raises them.
Generalist firms learn HMRC's objections reactively. Trellis has seen where applications go wrong — the share structure issues, the trading condition failures, the timing errors — and structures work to avoid them.
Full journey, not just assurance.
Advance assurance is the entry point. The compliance statements — filed for every investor after shares are issued — are where most firms step back. We don't. We handle every EIS1 and SEIS1 filing across every tranche.
Plain language. Honest timelines.
You will know what is needed, when to expect HMRC to respond, and what the realistic risk is at every stage. No jargon. No unexplained delays. No hiding behind 'it's complicated.'
How it works
From first call to every compliance filing.
Initial call
A 30-minute call to understand your round structure, share classes, and timeline. We will tell you exactly what is needed, flag any issues we can see already, and explain what the engagement looks like — with no obligation to proceed.
Advance assurance application
We draft and submit your SEIS or EIS advance assurance application to HMRC. We handle HMRC's queries directly, respond to any requests for further information, and manage the timeline until assurance is granted.
Investment close and structure review
Once investors commit, we review the final share structure, investor details, and round terms to confirm qualifying status is maintained. We flag anything that needs adjusting before shares are issued.
Compliance statements filed
After shares are issued, we prepare and submit the EIS1 or SEIS1 compliance statements with HMRC. Once approved, we issue the EIS3 or SEIS3 certificates — the documents your investors need to claim their tax relief.
Ongoing compliance and future rounds
We remain available for HMRC queries, structural changes, follow-on tranches, and future rounds. EIS and SEIS compliance does not end at advance assurance — we stay on the scheme with you.
Who we work with
Any UK startup raising under EIS or SEIS.
From pre-seed to later rounds still qualifying under EIS. What matters is that investors' relief is protected — at every stage, in every tranche.
First-time raisers
You are doing SEIS or EIS for the first time and want it done correctly — not pieced together from a generalist firm that learned the scheme last year.
Repeat raisers with a bad experience
A previous compliance statement was wrong, or advance assurance took months with no explanation. You need a firm that has already seen that situation and knows how to resolve it.
Founders mid-raise
Investors are signed up, shares are about to be issued, and you need compliance statements filed properly within the statutory window. We can step in at any stage.
Angels and VCs with portfolio exposure
You want compliance managed consistently across multiple portfolio companies — not left to each founder to navigate alone. We can coordinate across rounds.
